| After dumping and reinstalling our entire operating system, we realized that many of those neat little programs we'd downloaded off the Net were gone - poofed - vanished. We went looking for them again and found it more than a chore just to relocate them. Just in case we ever have to do another clean sweep again in the future, we figured we'd create a links page to all that necessary stuff we WebJunkies just can't live without. Right after you hook up your PC, installed your operating system and all the software that came with it, installed and connected your modem, and you're finally connected to the Internet, the first thing you'll want to do is get your system SECURED! Most new PCs come equipped with an AntiVirus program already installed; but, if your subscription has run out or you don't have ANY protection, we'd suggest you visit McAfee.com and order their AntiVirus and Firewall programs (DON'T FORGET TO KEEP THIS THING UPDATED!)....Download Now! | |||||||||||||||

We don't know much about any other operating systems as we're dedicated Microsoft Users, but immediately after downloading and installing your PCs security programs, you'll want to travel over to Microsoft Windows Update, download their installer-scanner, and QUICKLY download ALL the Critical Updates for your particular system.....Download Now! | |||||||||||||||

| 3. Your PC should've come with a Windows Media Player. If it didn't - or if it's an older version - you'll want to download and install it or update your present version. | 4. The next thing you'll need is the RealOne Player..... We need to make mention right here before you go any further: If you don't want your audio/visual player devices competing for default #1 position, make SURE you designate ONLY ONE of them as your default player for each specific file type! Trust me on this one because it gets irritating watching them fight with each other. We can't overly emphasize this point too much; otherwise, your PC will constantly be showing you a box asking you if you want this player or that one to be your default player for each particular file. You can solve that problem NOW by going immediately into the preferences (OPTIONS) for each player right after download. We won't tell you which one should be your No. #1 default player because that's totally up to you (they're all pretty good), but make that decision BEFORE you even start downloading all these things.....Download REAL Player Now! |

| 5. Apple has put out its own version of an audio/video device called the QuickTime Player. Much of the media on the Internet will use one of these these three players to stream and play most of what's available on the Web. Each player has unique options and skins that make it different from the others, but they're all basically pretty much the same in how they work. If you want to enjoy the full effects of multimedia over the Internet, we suggest you have all three installed on your computer AND you have a broadband connection. These are little components installed in that Freeware or Shareware that helps the developers of the software (apparently) pay their bills.
